Do you know someone who brings trouble upon himself or herself? In the end, others have to come to their rescue and bail them out. Dealing with these individuals can be draining, even after you have warned them and they rejected good counsel. However, as Christians, we have to remain willing to help others even when they make unwise decisions. Abraham had to go and fight for Lot after he made the bad choice to live in Sodom.

And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan. Gen 14:14 (KJV)

Lot was taken captive and Abraham had to gather a force to free him. There are individuals in our lives that may seem to go through the same things over and over again. Yet, God has allowed it so that we can be demonstrators of His love and mercy.

Paul reminded the Galatians that they were to do good unto all men. In addition, special consideration was to be given to those who are believers (Galatians 6:10). Do not hold back bearing others’ burdens, even if they are a burden to themselves. In doing so, we fulfill the law of Christ.

Fear is a powerful emotion. It can make one irrational and illogical. What things cause you to fear? How do you respond to your fears? If you would be honest, fears usually make you throw out reason and you begin to rely on your senses rather than sensibilities.

Though God has promised His abiding presence to those who know Him, Christians still find themselves governed by fear rather than faith. Abraham allowed his fear to dominate him; in turn, he dropped faith and relied upon his ingenuity in the situation.

Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee. Gen 12:13 (KJV)

God had promised Abraham that He would bless Him. However, Abraham feared he would be killed because of his beautiful wife. Consequently, he relied on deception rather than on God for protection while in Egypt.

What situations are confronting you? Are you relying solely on yourself or on God who is faithful and gracious? Abraham’s reliance on himself nearly cost him his wife. When you turn from faith to fear, you will not rely on God; you will rely on yourself, which is subject to failure. Why not stand on the One who cannot fail.

Well, let us remember to trust in Him who possesses all power! We are grateful for this daily bread.

Do you know someone who keeps his or her word? Whatever they tell you or promise you, they have proven to perform it? To know such a person is refreshing in a world where men oftentimes cannot be trusted. After God called Abraham, He gives him a promise of blessing.

Though he just came to know God, he could trust that what He said would happen. On today, think on the promises of God’s Word and even promises given to you by inspiration of the Spirit. Are you still standing in expectation?

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Gen 12:2-3 (KJV)

As Christians, we may forget that we are Abraham’s children. God promised to bless him and his descendants. We are his descendants by faith in Christ. On today, remember the value of promise. God promised to bless him, make him a blessing, and frustrate (curse) his opposition. Know that God will do the same for you. Trust His promises for He cannot lie.

Well, let us remember that God will always keep His promises! We are grateful for this daily bread. If you like this post and desire more daily inspiration, check out “Faith for the Journey (Volume I)” available at Amazon.

In life, we will encounter many people with varying personalities and dispositions. It is a fact that there will be disagreements, fall-outs, and times of miscommunication. These things can cause an individual not to have the proper perspective of others in daily interactions. It can be difficult to see others, especially as God sees them, when we have seen unfavorable aspects of their personalities and lifestyles. However, we must get over what we know about an individual.

And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. Gen 17:15 (KJV)

Abraham receives a name change, but God goes further and changes the name of his wife. Abraham had to see his wife, no longer as a barren woman (Sarai), but as a fruitful woman from whom kings and nations would come from (Sarah).

Once we come to Christ, our perception of men has to change. We have to see others as God does. He is not willing that any should perish. The very worst of sinners are candidates for His grace and redemption. When we see others as God does, it will restrain us from allowing what we see and know about them to change our love for them. This holds especially true concerning other members of the Body of Christ.

Though some Christians may be like Sarai, being barren in their walks with Christ, we must see them as candidates for being Sarah, members who will eventually be of great service to the Church and Kingdom of God. This will keep us from unforgiveness, bitterness, and judgment.

Many people do not have the proper perception of themselves. Because of this, many Christians do not know how to view themselves even as recipients of God’s salvation. They struggle with who they were, who they are, and who they will become. Our relationship with Christ brings us into a new life with a new identity. The Christian, thus, has to see himself as God sees him and receive his new identity in Christ.

Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. Gen 17:5-6 (KJV)

Abraham received the promise of a son, but that was not enough from God’s viewpoint. His coming blessing required that Abraham no longer view himself in the same manner. God changes his name from Abram (which means Exalted Father) to Abraham (Father of Many). Abraham’s name change signified what God had purposed him to be. God changed His name while he was yet childless. However, his name signified his relationship and covenant with God.

The Christian today has to receive a spiritual name change. Though people may call you by the same name, it should not have the same impact. However, it will begin with you agreeing with God and with who you are in Him. On today, if you know that you do not see yourself, as God would have you, ask for grace and strength. He will help you develop the proper self-perception. You will not think to high of yourself or too low of yourself. Remember, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creation.

Friends are an intricate part of one’s existence. And, those friends whom you can count on are treasures in one’s life. You know that if you ask them for anything that is proper, they will do their best to make it happen. If we can have that level of trust in someone that is subject to life, why is it difficult to come to God in faith, knowing He will be there in the time of need? Abraham experienced God’s power after his initial call, consequently, he understood that he could ask God for the impossible – an heir.

And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus? Gen 15:2 (KJV)

Since God comforted Abraham by reaffirming His faithfulness to him, Abraham then petitions God concerning offspring. What are you standing in need of at this time in your life? Regardless of what it is, you can trust that God will hear the very cry of your soul. Though we do not always know the will of God, we are not to be afraid to trust that God will hear us. He instructed us to pray, expecting to receive. If Abraham could make such an incredible request given his circumstances, we can really ask what we will and He will do it to glorify Himself.

We are grateful for this daily bread.

Separation is a necessary part of life. Many fight against it, even to their own hurt. Some stay in destructive relationships for fear of being alone. Others will not separate because of the “comfort” of familiarity. However, as a Christian, the challenge to separate from people, places, and things (in order to progress) is there.

Abraham had to make the decision to separate from Lot. Abraham and Lot entered into conflict because of their servants. Rather than stay in a situation where this could reoccur, Abraham gave Lot his pick of the land for peaceful separation.

And the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. Gen 13:14-15 (KJV)

After the separation, God appears to Abraham and gives him a blessing of promise. We discover that his separation was a set-up to receive from God. On today, what people, places, and things do you need to give up and separate yourself from?

Abraham was willing to separate from Lot and he received a blessing. Who know? Some things you may desire of God may be released if you separate from known negative influences. Make the necessary changes and separations; it will set you up for a blessing.

We are grateful for this daily bread.

Most individuals do not like moving. If you cannot hire movers, moving can be stressful and strenuous. You have to pack up everything, move heavy objects, and load it into transportation; only to unpack it all and arrange it in your new home. Moving takes work; if you move to the right place, it will be worth it.

Abraham had to leave (move) from his homeland at God’s request. He had to leave family, friends, and finances to obey God. In the end, he received all that God had for him. Today, think of “moves” that you need to make in your personal life and in your spiritual walk.

So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran. Gen 12:4 (KJV)

Whatever challenges face you, know that God will be with you and it will be worth it. Abraham was 75 years old when he had to adjust. This means that it is never too late. Get up and move to another place, there are some things that God has purposed for you in this life. It is time to move.

We are grateful for this daily bread.

Have you ever been watching a program and the phone rings? Have you ever sat down to eat only to hear a knock at the door or the ring of the doorbell? Interruptions are a part of life and they come at the most inopportune time? In these situations, how do you respond? Do you respond with peace and grace or with anger and contention? Abraham experienced an interruption in his life. However, it was not from man, but God.

Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee. Gen 12:1 (KJV)

Abraham was a rich man enjoying life with his family. Yet, God interrupted his life and its direction because of His will for him. Are you willing to allow God and your walk with Him interrupt your life.

Many claim to love God and say they want to please Him, but do not allow Him to be an active participant in their lives. On today, heed God calls into His presence, allow Him to move you from your place of comfort into purpose.

God is a God of purpose. Regardless of the events that take place in our lives, there is a purpose. We do not serve a God who is clueless or useless. He is an omnipotent and all things occur by His will. Because of this, there is a reason for this season in your life.

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up. Eccl 3:1-3 (KJV)

Just as there are necessary changes for natural seasons, there are spiritual seasons that all must pass through. Whether you are in a season of peace or war, riches or poverty, sickness or health, His plan for your life is unfolding. Seek God and He will reveal to you by His Spirit, the reason for this season.
